Based on data released by the World Breastfeeding Trends initiatives (WBTi), Sri Lanka has a good breastfeeding rates. While Indonesia is on the bottom three ranks 30 out of 33 countries.
The assessment was conducted during the 2008-2009 WBTi against 33 countries. Found 9 countries that get the blue with the highest value assigned by the state of Sri Lanka, 22 countries including Indonesia get the yellow and two red states to get results.
"WBTi here to do the tracking, assessment, monitoring, implementation and global strategy for infant food and small children (infant and child feeding a youth)," said Dr. Arun Gupta as the regional coordinator of IBFAN Asia in the show 'Oneasia Breastfeeding Partners Forum 7 at Grand Flora Hotel Kemang, Jakarta, Thursday (11/11/2010).
Dr Arun said that in doing this ranking is based on 3 stages, namely the first stage of a national assessment, the second phase do the ranking of countries or regions are based on data and the third stage is to conduct re-assessment to analyze trends.
Indicators used in assessment WBTi consists of 15 indicators divided into two parts, namely the indicator first part relates to policies and programs of these countries, while the second section indicators associated with infant feeding practices and child.
"We're sad to see Indonesia is ranked 30, at least this result can be a motivator for us to fix it. But there are also other indicators that show good results such as the handling of breastfeeding during a disaster," said Mia Sutanto, as Chairman AIMI (Nursing Mothers Association of Indonesia).
The gathering in Indonesia this involves partners from the Ministry of Health, AIMI (Nursing Mothers Association of Indonesia), Selasi (Indonesian Lactation Center) and also Perinasia (Association of Indonesian Perinatologi).
